2023 Information for Participants

Here is some key information to facilitate your preparation.

Before Traveling to ASU

Presenter Information. If you are a presenter, please review the Information for Presenters.

Program. SSLW2023 Program will be fully online at sslw2023.sched.com. No print program will be provided. If you do not have a mobile device (e.g., smart phone or tablet), we recommend printing out the program-at-a-glance and the list of sessions beforehand.

For information about how to use sched.com, please see Attendee Guide. Here are some of the tutorials:

  • Manage Profile & Sched Account
  • Manage Event Schedule/Agenda
  • App Tour for Attendees (Video)
  • Web Tour for Attendees (Video)

Traveling to the United States. If you are traveling to the United States from other countries, please check the visa requirement well in advance. As of May 12, 2023, COVID-19 testing and vaccines are no longer required for entry into the United States, but you may be asked to provide information for contact tracing.

Homecoming. This year’s SSLW coincides with the homecoming week. Please keep it in mind as you plan your activities, transportation, and restaurant reservations. If you haven’t booked your hotel yet, we suggest booking a room as soon as possible.

Upon Arrival

Early Check-in. If you arrive early and would like to check in and pick up your name tag, you can come to Paul’s office in Ross-Blakley Hall 161 (Map) between 2 pm and 5 pm on Wednesday, October 25.

Pre-Symposium Social. The Pre-Symposium Social—a time honored tradition—will take place Wednesday, October 25 at Pedal Haus Brewery Tempe (730 S. Mill Avenue #102, Tempe, AZ 85281). We have an outdoor deck reserved from 6 to 8 pm where appetizers will be served. Please purchase your own drinks and additional food. We will likely continue socializing at the venue (or somewhere in the vicinity) well past 8 pm. Even if you arrive late, please consider coming by to shake hands, exchange fist/elbow bumps, or at least share vigorous waves!

Registration. We will be checking people in at Paul’s Office (2-5 pm on Wednesday), during the Pre-Symposium social (6-8 pm on Wednesday), and at the registration desk in front of Arizona Room on the second floor of the Memorial Union (MU; 301 E Orange St., Tempe, AZ 85281). If you or your colleagues have not registered yet, we recommend registering online before approaching the registration desk. You can check in with one of the SSLW Assistants (wearing the name tags with yellow lanyards) and pick up your name tag. Please have your online ticket/QR code ready for smooth check in. (If you have registered but don’t have the QR code handy, keep calm and tell us your name.)

Lunches. Due to some changes in ASU policies, post-pandemic trends in the hospitality industry, and homecoming activities, we will not be having an opening reception on Thursday. Instead, we will be spreading out social events by providing lunch on all three days. For more information, see Social Events.
