SSLW2006 Networking Excursion

This networking excursion is booked full, and the waiting list is closed. Due to space limitations, additional seats cannot be created. If you are already waitlisted, you will receive an email if a space opens up before September 22.
This year, SSLW will offer an optional networking excursion designed as a full-day of professional networking and cultural experience. The itinerary includes visits to Fushimi Inari Shrine, a traditional sake brewery and restaurant, a Uji matcha experience, a scenic walk along the Uji River, and Byodoin Temple (a World Heritage Site). The tour will conclude with the Pre-Symposium Social.

SSLW2006 Pre-Symposium Social
Date/Time: Thursday, October 22, 18:00-20:00
Location: Pig & Whistle, Shobi bldg. 2F, 115 Ohash-cho Ohashi higashi-iru, Sanjo-dori, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto
Pig & Whistle is located near Keihan Line Sanjo Station Exit 9.
This is a ticketed event requiring pre-registration by October 18. If you missed the deadline but would like to attend, please pay a la carte at the cashier.
Join us for an evening of conversation with L2 writing colleagues from around the world! The Pre-Symposium Social is a time-honored SSLW tradition since 1998. It is a way of welcoming SSLW participants who arrive in town early. Drinks and some appetizers will be provided. You can purchase premium drinks and additional food at the cashier. If you have pre-registered, you can pick up your name tag during this social as well.

Opening Reception

This event is open to all registered participants wearing an SSLW2026 name tag.
This networking event is a chance to get to know L2 writing teachers and researchers from around the world.
Food and drinks must be consumed in International Conference Halls I, II, and III. Event trash can be placed in designated trash bins. No outside trash, please.
Hot buffet: Tomato & cheese grilled cabbage rolls; chef’s special kuwayaki-style tender chicken; french fries (basil flavored); seafood & shrimp pilaf
Cold buffet: Aged salami croissant sandwich; chef’s daily special marinated dish (served in a mini wine cup); prosciutto & dragon fruit pinchos; seasonal vegetable & pork pinchos; duck loin carpaccio-style salad; seasonal cake pinchos; afternoon tea selection

Networking Lunch

Location: International Conference Halls and Meeting Rooms on the Second Floor
Open to all registered participants; boxed lunches can be pre-ordered until October 8. (Sorry, no on-site purchase!)
Join us for an opportunity to chat over lunch with fellow L2 writing researchers and teachers from around the world. The event is open to all participants. Unless you have pre-ordered lunch, please bring your own lunch. Co-op downstairs is open only on Friday. There is also a convenience store on campus—within a few minutes from the conference venue. Other lunch options are rather limited, especially on weekends.
Food and drinks must be consumed in International Conference Halls I, II, III, or other 2nd floor meeting rooms. If you bring your own food and bottled drinks, but please take your own trash home.
