Symposium on Second Language Writing

2025 Professional Networking Events

SSLW2025 offers several professional networking opportunities, including the Pre-Symposium Social, Opening Reception, and optional tour.

SSLW2025 Pre-Symposium Social

Date/Time: October 22, 18:00-21:00
Location: Ocean Taipei Bar

Floor B1, 67 Roosevelt Rd, Da’an District Section 2, Taipei, Taiwan 106

The Pre-Symposium Social, a free professional networking event, is a time-honored SSLW tradition since 1998. If you are pre-registered for SSLW2025, you can check in and pick up your name tag during this event. If you haven’t registered, you can register here as well.

This is a free event, but if you are planning to join us, please sign up on Eventbrite so we can estimate the number of participants.

Ocean Taipei Bar is located near Guting Station (古亭站) exit 4, next to Starbucks on the corner of Roosevelt Road and Heping East Road (和平東路). Find the small entrance and take the stairs to the basement.

In addition to a full bar with a selection of original cocktails, you can purchase fried snack (fries, truffle fries, salty crispy chicken, cod sticks, mozzarella sticks) and vegetable dishes (roasted vegetables, grilled zucchini, water bamboo) as well as some local food (braised pork rice, beef noodles, steamed dumplings, soy-glazed pork belly). Given the small kitchen size, however, the service may be limited, so plan your meals before of after this gathering.

House Rules:

  • Buy your own beverage and food (BYOBF).
  • Minimum spending of 400NTD (plus 10% service charge) per person.
  • Outside food is not permitted.
  • If you have food allergies, notify a staff member at the beginning.

Opening Reception

Date/Time: October 23, 2025, 18:00-20:00
Location: Garden Cafeteria (1st Floor)

This networking event is a chance to get to know L2 writing teachers and researchers from around the world. Due to space limitation, this year’s opening reception is a ticketed event by pre-registration only. if you have pre-registered for this event, you will receive a voucher with your name tag.

The Opening Reception ticket is not included in the SSLW registration.

Pre-registration for the Opening Reception is already closed, but a limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at the registration and check-in counter between 12:00 and 17:00 on Thursday.

SSLW2025 Networking Tour

Date/Time: October 26, 2025, 8:30-17:30
Departure Location: Howard Civil Service International House

Funded by an external grant, this event offers an additional networking opportunity to a limited number of international participants. Thirty-five international participants were selected who registered for SSLW2025 early and responded to the invitation on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tour will include a visit to Yehliu Geological Park, Gold Mine Museum, Queen’s Seafood Restaurant, and Jiufeng.
